Patrick Renaud, Director
Background and Approach
Hailing from Durban, I competed through the ’80s and ’90s, winning multiple South African championship titles and surfing at national and international level with Quiksilver as my headline sponsor.
Today I bring over 30 years of surf coaching and lifeguarding experience as Sri Lanka’s National Head Surfing Coach and ISA Course Presenter. In 2022 and 2023 I led surfing development in India, helping restructure the sport and taking the national team to the 2023 World Surfing Games in El Salvador. I’ve also coached with the Maldives Surfing Association and Surfing England.
Through Surf Odysseys, I want to share everything I’ve learned, both in and out of the water, with every surfer who joins us.
Coach Qualifications
Coaching qualifications: ISA Level 2 Surf Coach, Surfing England Level 2 Surf Coach, and Academy of Surf Instructors Master Surf Coach.
Lifesaving
Lifesaving: 17 years as Head of Lifeguard Training & Development for the RNLI (around 1,500 lifeguards). I’m also a Surf Lifesaving GB Lifeguard Trainer/Assessor and an ILS Beach Risk Assessor.
National Team Coaching
National Head Coach for Sri Lanka (2023–26) and India (2022–23). I’ve also coached the India, Maldives and Sri Lanka national teams, including India at the 2023 World Surfing Games and Sri Lanka at the 2024 Asia Surfing Championships, where the team qualified for the 2026 World Surfing Games.
